Michael B. Wood is the co-founder and Principal of MW Group, Ltd. Mr. Wood oversees both the long range vision and strategic planning for the company's sister company, Hawaii Self Storage as well as the company's assisted living platform including acquisitions, development, planning and marketing.
Mr. Wood moved to Hawaii in 1963 after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley. He spent the next 18 years with Kenalt Incorporated, a food, sundry & household products brokerage and warehousing distribution business. As President, Mike was instrumental in making Kenalt the largest broker/disbributors in Hawaii before overseeing the sale of the company. Mr. Wood has been in the Real Estate Development industry for over 25 years. In 1984, he formed Wood Development Corporation which specialized in acqusition and renovation of neighborhood retail centers. In 1991, he partnered with Stephen B. Metter and together they formed MW Group, Ltd.
Mr. Wood belongs to and participates in several community organizations including The Outrigger Canoe Club, The Plaza Club, The University of California Bear Backers, Cal Club Hawaii and The University of Hawaii Na Koa Football Club. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for both Family Programs Hawaii (FPH), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping displaced children and Mid-Pacific Institute, one of the prominent private educational insitutions in Hawaii.
Most recently, in partnership with FPH and The State of Hawaii, the Wood Family built Ho'omalu O Na Kamali'i (for the safety and protection of children), a home for displaced children in leeward Oahu. Mr. Wood has dedicated over $9 million over the next 20 years to operate this shelter which opened in April 2009. Mike's hope is that this home can provide abused children with a caring, safe & secure place.
Mr. Wood has been married to Joanne Wood for nearly 50 years. They have 3 sons, 9 grandchildren and 2 dogs. |
